In 1974 a 3 lane road was carved
through what is now the Historic West Eighth Street and West Central
Historic Districts for "better downtown traffic flow".
The construction of this thoroughfare caused quite a storm within
the city and helped move the downtown residents to diligently work
toward the creation of our two Historic Districts.
Delaware Street and Brown
Street were combined from West 6th St. to West 14th St. by cutting
down trees, demolishing homes, and taking away resident's lawns.
